Winter Prep for 1st year planting ...??

Hello and good morning :)

Should I leave the mowing until early spring? Or mow now? Do I even need to? My area is small and actually not much to mow back...any weeds I had/have are hand chopped back all along..the tallest plant now is the Black-Eyed-Susan's and plains Coreopsis, which should die back on their own..right? Every thing else is small.

Do bluestems/sideoats green up again in spring like lawn grasses or do the blades completely die back and start from new shoots every spring?

Thanks
Vera

i usually wait until spring to mow or burn ... the tall stuff provides winter interest and food and shelter for critters over the winter. the grass does not re-green, it grows new leaves. a spring burn works great too...
