When to harvest bluestem seed?

Posted by hackbagger 5B (My Page) on

I started a 1/2 acre prairie last fall. With the spring rains washing away 75% of the seeds, I'm interested in harvesting as much seed from my semi-formal planting bed pariarie plants as possible to save some $$. The main victims of the washout were the grasses since they're larger and float easier. I have loads of little bluestem plants that i can get seed from. Not sure when and how to do that. Any advice?
