sorry - dont have a pic for you - sometimes if you can find the plant in the wild - and then you look around nearby you can then easily identify which ones are the babies for that plant - of course usually i do this in reverse - when i find a young plant thats hard to id - i look around for larger more mature plants that are easier to id - so you may want to try this in reverse if you are really wondering ---
and vera - dont take this the wrong way - but patience really is a virtue - sometimes i wait two years to let something grow large enough before i can identify it...
No I don't take it the wrong way! But I am impatient indeed lol! Really tho I am just trying to make sure it is a desirable and not some perennial weed that's gonna hurt me next year! I did pull the smaller of the two up and it is taprooted. Whatever it is is starting to get yellow fall colors.
if ya grow them in a pot, with no field compatition, u can get pretty fast growth and id things faster.
but rooting around ur newly planted prairie is gonna drive u either to drinking or to the herbarium, or more likely both.
i agree, i wait 2-3 years before i really start to root around. i have also found that overmanagement can be very bad. do what ur suppose to do when u are supposed to do it and let ma nature do the rest. usually turns out alright.
i agree with froggy - even if it is a an undesirable weed - its not going to do too much harm in the first year or two - - if you keep an eye on it and find its not something that you want - just keep it from going to seed - that is really all you need to do -
Alright! Alright! God knows I don't need a relapse LOL! Not to fret I am going back to school today so not so much time on my hands to get manic on identification until next summer :) And thank you John_MO...that looks JUST like it! Now i'll have to take out my Plant Identification Terminology book and decifer the language :)
