looking for a good book to encourage my brother!

Hello everyone,

My brother moved to southern Missouri a few years ago and now has 80 acres of what is commonly refered to there as "pasture" and "woodlot". Right now, they are leasing most of it to someone who puts cows on it. However, he has expressed some interest in not renewing the lease and looking into restoring native grasses and habitat. He doesn't like doing anything on a computer (or I would recommend this forum), but he loves to read. So, I'm looking for a book to send him that might encourage him toward native plant restoration, and give him some ideas of how to do it. Thanks for any suggestions, linda

I agree with Sarah Stein for inspiration and Packard for how-to information.

To see some examples of the prairie plants he could be encouraging, I'd recommend Tallgrass Prarie Wildflowers, by Doug Ladd. I'd also recommend a visit to a high-quality prairie preserve, like Dunn Ranch (owned by the Nature Conservancy; located off I-35 near the Iowa Border) or Prairie State Park in southwest Missouri,
