I got this big tall tree in my grass grass garden. I open my blinds to get a nice view and my sight was greeted by a bunch of gaping wounds on its side. I fear it is dying. It is my best tree. How can I save it?

Lightning was my first thought also.if so, it may recover, I have seen that happen. But mostly it's a wait & see thing.
