Source for high-end stone planters in the Mid-Atlantic

I'm looking for concrete or limestone (or look-alike) large, stone planters. They usually start at 400lbs, so the web hasn't been the greatest source of leads--shipping is often prohibitive. Does anyone know of stores, artisans, or any other source for large stone containers/planters in the mid-Atlantic (for a client outside DC)? I'm looking for something like what Kornegay has, but they are in Arizona. This is for a residential client, not municipal--so I don't want a big concrete container like is outside the federal buildings :p

thanks for any help. this has been a long, frustrating search. I'd love to support a local artist, rather than give a transport company a couple grand for shipping.

Are you looking for company that makes these planters or are you seeking an artist to make a planter for you?

I'll wager any decent sculptor could make one, although what they'd cahrge, I have no idea. That would vary greatly according to who you locate to do it for you.

I know a company in INdiana that does absolutely amazing stone carved planters, statues, fountains, etc. www.stonespectrum.com But again, that shipping thing.

Riverside Plastics, Kentucky. www.riverside-plastics.com
Nice looking, lightweight, largest they have is just below chest height on me (I'm six foot).

I also know of four companies that make fountains, planters, garden ornaments, etc. and ship nationwide. Henri's, Al's garden Art, Athens Stonecasting, Mazerelli.

I hope that helps.

If you can buy wholesale, try Patapsco Valley Supply. If you call ahead, they will pull it for you and you can pick it up at the warehouse to save shipping costs.

If you don't see what you want on the web site, phone them. They have many other products that aren't on the web and they are nice to deal with.

heptacodium: I'm looking for either an artist, or a company. Thanks for your suggestions--I'll check them out. It's going to be expensive, period, for that much material--price isn't so much an issue for the right container.

watergal: thanks for that lead--I can buy wholesale. I'm new to MD so there are a lot of sources of materials and plants I'm still finding. So far everyone has been real nice. If there are any other must-knows, let me know!

Down in Richmond VA is a company called Bamboo Forest. He also runs a stoneyard. If anyone could find you something, I bet Paul could. The number is 757-722-9653.
