Any idea of what genera you may be looking for? You plan to start from seed and grow yourself? Is this study associated to a University?

Hi Goblugal, the project is for Elementary school children promoting indoor plants so that their parents and family can have a better environment to work and live in.

No particular genera. As long as the plants can thrive in North Carolina's &A plant zone. I wanted to get African Violets as children were excited about the pretty colors, but sadly that plant can not grow in our yards to be prepared to be given away as the temperatures here rise over 90 degrees.

So would the plants be grown in a greenhouse and given to the children to take home? I'm a little confused as to who and where the plants would need to be grown. That may dictate the genera.

Have you considered Nicotania? Sown from seeds, indoors or outside. Transplants easily, flowers over a long period of time. Tobacco is also like a "canary in a mine" in that they show damage from ozone earlier than most.
