 o
merchandise shrinkage

Anyone in a retail nursery care to share what percentage of their plant merchandise is lost to shrinkage?

I've heard there is a standard deduction for shrinkage with IRS but can't find that on the internet. Thought it might give me a bit of an idea what somebody considers "usual".

I'm looking at somewhere around 6%(dollars of dumped/lost plants compared to all plants sold ) in my department and wonder if it's at all in line with what others experience. This would be primarily annuals.

Thanks.

No such thing as shrinkage with the IRS. It's all about what you spent and what you made.

RE: merchandise shrinkage

With the IRS, you bring in $$ income and you have $$ expenses. the difference it taxable. This is a very simple explanation. So with plants, it costs you $$ for all of the supplies for the plants (expenses). and at the end of season, how many $$ of sales did you have. It doesn't matter to the IRS if you had plants disappear or were stolen, just how many $$ did you make.
