 o
Master Gardeners Program

I am interested in participating in a Master Gardens Volunteer Cooperative Extension program. Unfortunately, Washington, DC, where I live, does not have one. Can anyone provide more information or first hand experience on these programs? I would be willing to move someplace else to participate.

You'd MOVE to attend a MG program?

I would but maybe I don't understand the scope. If its a couple years of schooling and volunteering then its seems like a good opportunity to move someplace new that I am interested in seeing. Or is it something where you have a full-time job and classes are when you can fit them in?

RE: Master Gardeners Program

Most MG programs are a few weeks of classes, maybe 80 hours total, if that. And a committment to volunteer a set amount of hours. It is not a program that is intended for anyone professionally involved in the industry but rather for hobby gardeners to help educate other hobby gardeners.

I've attached a link that presents an overview of the history and intended purpose of the program for your review. And if you are still interested in participating, there IS a program operating in DC:

Here is a link that might be useful: Overview of the MG program
