If your state has a nursery trades association, join it and meet others in the business. My state association even publishes a buyer's guide. If there is another state neaby that has a big concentration of suppliers there association would be another one to join. The example out here is Oregon, California also grows alot of the material stocked and sold by Washington nurseries.

Hi John,

Anyone serious about starting a nursery should join the Perennial Plant Association. www.perennialplant.org. That's what I did 18 years ago when I started.

Read the trade journals: GPN, Grower Talks, Greenhouse Grower, etc. The distributors advertise in there. Visit other garden centers and ask them where they buy their plugs. Also visit trade shows and find distributors there. The trade journals have advertisements of where and when the trade shows are.

Hi John,

I will assume you have a business cert or license.

For perennial plugs, I would suggest to anyone starting out to contact Walters Gardens. They specialize in bare root and plugs, perennials. There is no minimum, other than one flat, and they are consistently excellent. As far as I'm concerned they set the standard for both plugs and bareroot.

I would also contact Germania Seed. They are Brokers, and have quite an extensive catalogue of perennials and annuals.

Sounds like you're starting a new business? If so, good luck with it!

You'll find all the sources you could possibly need at the PANTs Show's new location in Atlantic City, dates July 25,26 & 27.

Here is a link that might be useful: PANTs Show in Atlantic City
