Container Sizes

Hi, I was looking at landscaping website that sells plants and it describes them as #1, #5, 7, 15, 24, etc.
Can anyone tell me what this means?
Does it compare to trade gallons? |

| Yes, these used to be call1 gallon, two gallon, etc,.., but states regulate weights and measures. Since they need to be consistant (or have nothing better to do) they could not allow plants to be sold as these standard measures if they were not truly measurable in gallons. So, the industry now calls a "1 gallon" a #1. It is actually pretty funny, but it makes some sense or else some clown would be selling gas for short gallons. Don't ask me why a pound of coffee is 13.5 ounces. Maybe they cracked down on that at the same time. I think it was about 3-4 years ago that this came up. |

| Thanks Laag. I knew they are trying to make things standard. But a #1 doesn't tell a customer much! Don't get me started on coffee or food... or candy bars! Has my mouth gotten bigger or candy bars smaller? lol |
