Merchant credit card accounts?

Posted by watergal z6/7 Westminster, MD (sjohnson13@aol.com) on

Has anyone out there found an affordable service to process credit cards? I own an interior landscaping business and occasionally may need to process credit cards either at home or at the job site, but probably not very often. I'm hoping to avoid paying a monthly fee. My sales will be small at first (but of course I hope that will change!).

Thanks!

RE: Merchant credit card accounts?

I have held on for years, refusing to go to accepting credit cards. My customers are nearly all commercial accounts, as are your's most likely and I know that they are accustomed to being billed by other companies, so why not mine?

I only get flack from an occasional retail customer, and tell them I'd be glad to bill them out on 30 terms just like my wholesale accounts. Most bite, but those that don't give me the impression that the money might not be there at the end of the month. LOL. I know accepting credit cards is just a fact of life for retail establishments, but I really can't see the purpose for paying a third party anything if you are willing to be the bankroller and risk taker, just like the credit card company is.

Thanks for the input. I'm expecting most of my clients will be commercial, so I'm hoping it won't be an issue. It just seems like such a rip-off for the merchant!

RE: Merchant credit card accounts?

I finally got myself a merchant account about a year ago. I did a lot of research into different companies before I committed to one to make sure I got the best deal possible.

I decided on a company that guaranteed the best deal. I forget the name of the company, but I found the number of my sales guy in my rolodex.

His name is Brandin and his number is 702-994-9373. He was a super nice guy and very helpful, which was nice since this was the first time I had set up a credit card account.

Good Luck!

Get the credit card facility because it will increase business significantly. That's what I found - most people want to pay by credit card. Downunder our banks offer merchant facilities and I don't think feel the charge is excessive. The base fee is about $10 per month and the rest is a percentage of sales. I think you will find that sales will increase if you do accept credit cards so it's worth it. One thing - American Express is more expensive than Visa and MasterCard (well it is here any way).

merchant account is a type of bank account that allows businesses to accept payments by debit or credit cards.accepting credit cards has many advantages. The consumer is able to purchase and pay faster and usually spends more money in the process. Traveling consumers may not carry cash, and business people use credit cards to make their accounting process easier. For the business owner, credit cards can improve cash flow by depositing the money into your account more quickly, and you don't have to worry about checks bouncing.
