My 3 year old was just eating the little purple berries off of this plant here in Dublin, Ireland. Can anyone tell me the name of this plant and if it is poisonous?
Thank you.

It is a form of Callicarpa, beautyberry, and the berries are NOT toxic. But they taste pretty nasty and even deer tend to avoid them.

And the above advice is very much on point - you may need to identify toxic plants much faster that a global gardening forum can provide. If you are gardening with small children, it is a very good idea to go through your garden and identify what plants are toxic and the degree of toxicity they present. That doesn't mean you should remove them all - more plants are toxic to some degree - even edible ones - than those that are not. But at least you'll be armed with the info you need should something similar happen down the road. And you ALWAYS want to take a sample of the plant with you to any emergency medical service/poison control center should something like this happen in the future.

Here is a link that might be useful: UC Davis list of toxic plants

And don't just bring the berries. At work (organic nursery), the people who just bring a stick or just a few berries to get something identified don't get as good or quick of an answer as the ones who bring a foot-long branch with leaves, berries and/or blooms. And some even bring pictures of the entire plant (iPhones make plant ID so much easier nowadays!).

Doctors don't know toxix plant well enough to do any good, call the poisen center, giving the name of the plant, call the doctor and him/she know that you bring the chile in and that you called the poinsen center, and them to expect a call. It give you a head start for treatment for your child. Norma
