professional horticulturist certification

| Hi folks --
I have recently joined the state and local nursery associations, and discovered that there is a state professional horticulturist certification available. It involves studying some information in a manual and taking a test that is offered yearly.
I am wondering if any of you have this certification, and if you have considered it useful from a business standpoint. My workers have enjoyed obtaining knowledge through courses and training, and I am considering having us all sit for this certification.
Thanks,

| Linda, suggest you check out a similar thread that surfaced earlier this month ("Is anyone a CPH?"). The consensus was that any formalized educational program - even the self-study CPH testing process - was of benefit. The more you know, the better you can do the job and serve the customers. However, public recognition of this certification is pretty much non-existant. There may very well be some peer group benefits, but I'd do it just for the personal satisfaction of having an additional professional ranking to add to my resume. |

| Some local nurseries/garden centers are mentioning certified horticulturalist employees in their ads. Perhaps to differentiate from the discount/box stores? |
