We think we are seeing a big decline in the sale of decorated wreaths this year. Could this be just our imagination or have others who "do" Christmas seen the same trend?

We sold a reasonable number. I don't know if more were sold last year because this is my first year of garden center employment. One thing I do notice is that more plain wreaths seem to get bought than decorated. We have a custome decorating service, and many customers choose to select a plain wreath and then have a custom bow and/or decorations put on. Or, they will see a decorated wreath they like and ask if they can get the bow or an ornament switched to something else (which of course we oblige).

Sales are down this year. I've asked 10-12 other wreath makers how their sales are and they've said the same thing. The price of gas, heat and food has gone up drastically since last year. Customers have more worries and fewer dollars.

I'm not seeing much of a decline in wreath sales or in sales of any other seasonal greens. Tree sales, both living and cut, are up this year (about ready to sell out on cut), going through garland like crazy. We sell both pre-done wreaths in an assortment of greens as well as DIY wreaths and both are very hot commodities, although the DIY'ers outsell the predone wreaths slightly. We leave the decorations on the predone wreaths very simple - a few cones or berries and a bow - and let the customers jazz them up later if they wish.
