Rooting cuttings from trees?

What is the best way to go about rooting cuttings from trees? There are a few around town I'm hoping to get "copies" of before I hopefully move this summer, and I'm hoping I can take cuttings rather than trying to collect seeds. The tree that I feel is most important for me to get cuttings from would be difficult to get seeds from, and seeds won't really ensure I get the colorings I'm wanting. I'm not entirely sure what the tree is but I have pictures so more knowledgeable folks can hopefully ID it.

That's the one I most want. If I can't manage cuttings from any other tree I'm hoping for I REALLY want that one. I'm so in love with the colors it gets in fall, as seen in the pictures. I've had no luck trying to get seeds from the tree. I'm sure it gets some kind of seeds but I never managed to see any all last year when I would walk past to go to work. If I can get the nerve to talk to the property owners about taking cuttings I want to try and root some from that tree so I can have a tree that will look that gorgeous in the fall.

Those are from a tree just outside my patio. I've tried to grow from the berries before with no success, so I'm hoping maybe I'll have better luck with cuttings. I can't seem to find any pictures of it in spring when it develops flowers to help with identification. Birds love the berries on this tree so I'd love to have one for when I move.

The little flowers on that one are very fragrant. I can smell them from several feet away when they bloom. ^_^ I've never noticed anything that looks like seeds to be able to try and grow one from those, so I'm hoping I can get cuttings from it instead.
