If the graft takes, it should do fine. Grafting fruiting bud wood is often done purposefully. I'm not sure what you read about not using a blooming/fruiting scion, but I'd bet it may have been referring to using a cutting that hadn't set its fruit or something like that.

I am assuming any flower was removed from the scion before using. You don't want a flower competing with vegetative growth for plant nutrients. In the plant world producing a flower and then a fruit and seed is what guarantees the species survival, and thus has a priority for the food. Al
