I'm with Ken - al long as it is till green and the leaves haven't fallen off, sounds like you have a chance of getting a new plant. Whenever I trim anything, it goes into a mixture of potting soil and perlite. So far I've had great results. Good luck.

Whatever you do, don't disturb it by pulling it up occasionally to check for root growth. Just allow it to be. When you begin to see signs of new growth, give the plant a tiny tug. If there's resistance, then it's rooted.
