How long does it take to root a redtwig dogwood

Dropping by from the trees and conifers forum to check on this. I know my redtwigs grow suckers fairly well, root oportunely where a branch hits the ground, and I intend to dig some out this year then replant them.

I have some pruning to do to keep the wood fresh so I want to use the opportunity to create more plants. If I take cuttings this time of year and stick them in moist dirt on the north side of my house how long until they root? I have some hormone to use....Is about a foot the desired length of cutting?

Also I assume I can bend any stem off the parent plant into and our of a pot of top soil with a foot or so sticking out to complete a "U" shape, use a sharp knife to scrape off some bark, apply rooting hormone, and eventually end up with a self rooted plant. Is this method more effective? Any quicker? Are these season or year long projects?

Thanks in advance
