Make sure the soil in the trays is moist (wet) If they are then no harm will come to them.....

i swear we havent been up to 30 degrees in 60 days.. and you are complaining about going down to 30 ... yikes... lol .. thats some perspective on the difference between z5 and z8 ... lol

hardware store... couple buck very thin paint tarp ... comes rolled in a small package ... very small mils thickness ...

overturn a couple buckets or pots for a little height .... unfurl and drag the tarp over the trays at sunset ... uncover in the morning ... after temps start rising.. but do not leave covered in sun ... and then a couple weights to hold it all down ...

basically .. the tarp will retain the heat in the ground .. which should be more than enough for 30 degrees .... the moist pots accomplish the same to some extent ... it all has to do with how cold.. for how long .... you need to NOT trust the forecast ... if repeated temps like this are possible in your zone ..... you have to be prepared ...

in my zone 5 ... this type of fluctuations occur for most of april and may ... and one has to invest is protection ... sooner or later.. we get a 20 degree night ... and 30 seems like a heat wave .... hence the use of tents and greenhouses up here in the great white north ....

The temperatures swing back and forth big time at the time of the year. One day, it's 80 degrees during the day then high 20s,low 30s overnight when the cold fronts come through and so on. I wasn't sure if the germinated acorns can handle slight freezing or not and they are sitting on a hardware cloth bench to air prune those tap roots. Looks like it's going to hit 29 tonight. Possible snow this afternoon. Yah.... I'll just move all the trays to the garage. And be done with it. I've already cleaned up the garage so I have a lot more room now.

if its not too late.. you may still want to lay down a tarp in the garage ... maybe one of those heavier blue tarps that are cheap ...

its easier than having to scrub out all the dirt later in the summer ....
