propagate roses

i am propagating in a mist house with bottom heat in a commercial greenhouse. i want to propagate some roses. last summer, cuttings i stuck in jun e and july rooted quickly with most cuttings rooting. i have roses that need to be sheared now, but the stems are a little soft. i was wondering if anyone had any experience sticking cuttings from roses at this time of the year. i would characterize many of the shoots be slightly hardened off new growth.

My best success with roses has always been when the cuttings are struck anytime after the flowers are fully open, taking them about three nodes below the bloom, depending on the variety. I've never used mist propagation - that may allow you to take the cuttings when they're a little softer than that and have success, but they grow so quickly that waiting a week might not be a bad plan to guarantee a little better success rate.
