Apricot tree rootstock. . .

Okay, so I have an apricot tree shoved into a corner of my yard where it doesn't get a lot of sun because it's behind a enormously overgrown cocktail citrus tree. Anyway, it's pretty useless over there, so I decided that instead of attempting to transplant it, I would just take as many cuttings as I could and try to get them to root. I am in zone 10 or sunset zone 22, by the way. So, here are my questions. What's the best method to get the cuttings to root? Is now an okay time to try this? (I've heard it is, but I always want second, third, and fourth opinions. :)) Third, this tree appears to be a volunteer from an old ground down stump, so I think it is probably a rootstock variety. What's the most common variety of apricot rootstock? Is there any way to tell? The blossoms look just like the blossoms on the blog link below. Okay, thanks for the info ahead of time! :)
