Caring for 'woody' lavender

I haven't given my lavender the attention it needed over the years. As a result, my lavender has a lot of dead wood. In fact, some of the plants are about 50% wood. Can I cut all of the dead stuff out and expect the lavender to recover? Any other advice on how to bring the plants back to life and then how to better care for lavender going forward?

if parts of the plant are dead then it will not affect growth so go ahead.... just be care full not to cut the living branches from the roots

I have the same problem with my lavenders, even though I do take care of them. Lots of branches die out over the winter and have to be pruned out. If you leave the remaining branches and have a hole in the middle of your plant, in a couple of seasons it will fill in. Cheryl
