Can Tri-Colored Birch cuttings be rooted

If so what's the best way? Do you want to use this seasons growth or older wood? About how long does it take for them to root? I took some cuttings of firm new growth, dipped them in rooting hormone and put them in perlite in a covered pot a few weeks ago but I can't tell if they are taking or not.

Do you mean Beech? if so then use 3-4 inch tip cutting taken in July. apply 0.8% IBA (Root hormone) stick in well drained soil & mist taking 5-6 weeks to root.... may allllso use root cuttings....
