how to ship raspberry sprouts?

I just pulled the 'hobo' raspberry canes that pop up in my yard every spring. Easy having damp weather. (thick leather gloves!)
Now my dad wants some. I just usually compost them.
They have roots attached and nice new budding growth 4 inch.
Should i cut down the long canes i used to pull out? 8inches from the roots?
Roll in wet shredded mail, then newspaper?
Loose plastic bag?
Just looking for success for the trouble, though not a trouble at all...just would hate to send some dead things.
I've never bought such a thing having a yard-full-of-em.
I've ordered root cuttings in the past and can't remember if any plastic was involved. (bulbs are usually in plastic with holes)
Right now they are in a big heap by the garage. A hundred or so. I'll ship a dozen i think. Big rain storm starting so they will be wet all night.
