splitting/dividing ninebark?

Hi! Just wondering if anyone knows if splitting/dividing a ninebark (physocarpus) diabolo/diablo will kill it or not. I have one that could easily be split into two, but I don't want to end up with zero ninebarks in the process! Has anyone tried this? Thanks for any info you have :-)

I have never tried to split a ninebark, but I have had alot of luck in propagating from cuttings.

Maybe take a few cuttings before splitting - just in case.
