Propagating Lavender

JeffThompson

I have a number of varieties of lavender in my yard, including Grosso, Munstead, Provence, English, French and Spanish (Yes, I love lavender). I have this crazy idea that I will cover the slope in my backyard with lavender - I assume the drainage will be ideal and this will help push out out native species. Because of the cost of buying plants, I have decided to try my hand at propagating. Does anyone have any tips that they can share? I would presume that I cut off a 6" section of new growth, remove the leaves on the bottom half, nick or remove the skin on about an inch or two, dip in root hormone, and plant. Is there anything else I should be aware of? Thank you in advance for your assistance!
