How do I clone my Crab Apple?

Hello-I'm new at this and would like advice on rooting my crabapple. It is an offshoot of 'Red Splendor' that I got from the county as seedlings. Only a few actually look like Red Splendor. This particular one has briiliant rosy pink blossoms and maroon foliage. I would like to clone it.

I have some rooting compound I bought at WM last year. My previous experiences with rooting were not too successful. I have some large plastic tubs that I can put drain holes in and add sand, then cover over. Would that be good enough?
