Will this work? Hydrangeas in homemade gel ' plus'

In the interest of science, I thought I'd try something different with a few hydrangea "cuttings". I hydrated some water gel powder with a 1:10 solution of Woods Rooting solution and water. I pulled off several 5" pieces from a hydrangea stem, removed the lower leaves, trimmed the few remaining leaves to half, inserted the hydrangeas into the gel mix in a small spice jar, submerging several nodes and covered the remaining foliage with a baggie fastened with a rubber band. I didn't trim the stems so I essentially had "heels" at the lower end. After a day, everything still looks fine. I'll keep track of how things progress and let you all know how things turn out. If anyone has an opinion on whether I should change anything, please comment. I have LOADS of the gel powder. If it works, I may be tempted to trade some cuttings and a helping of gel for some other cuttings. If it doesn't work, nothing much is lost except a bit of gel and a few twigs.
