Rex Begonia Leaf Cutting Propagation

As you can see in the photo, I am getting growth in my first attempt at leaf cutting propagation. It is in a plastic take-home Chinese food container with 10 or twelve 1/4" holes drilled in the bottom for drainage, so it has been in a moist biosphere environment but the growth is starting to hit the clear plastic lid.

Time to move it? Should I do something different?

Don't really have a clue what I'm doing, so please help.

I have had the lid open to the ambient temp and humidity for a week, keep it moist and it has doubled in size. Note new growth in circled area.

open the lid may need to increase frequency of watering. will be "best" to delay transplant till it doubles in size....

Hey neuf! I'm late to the discussion but would love an update on how your baby rexes have been doing. I'm trying to propagate from a leaf cutting myself. When did you end up transplanting? Did they make it ok?

Hi Kelli,

I'd love to say GREAT but I've had less than stellar results. I have been able to get some small plants going, but the transition from in to outside, even during the warm months has been disappointing. If they can't proliferate with my planting medium and excellent treatment (at least I think it is excellent) I tend to lose interest. I would not bail on them on my account, though.

Thanks! It sounds like they are ok as long as they are kept inside then? Which I plan to do anyway - I appreciate the advice!

There's a Begonia forum on here too. You might want to ask over there also to get the most pairs of eyes on your questions. You've already had better luck than me with this. Cool!
