Hello everyone,
I recently found a huge wild grape vine next to the road I normally walk. Just noticed it. I was curious about 2 things how to get a cutting from the grape vine and is there anyway to find out if it's a grape vine, scuppernong, or fox grape? |

| first you need to get an ID ... and i dont know how to do that with grape.. maybe the fruit forum peeps can help ... if we cant.. and then once you ID it.. you find out the best time of year to propagate it ... which might not be the middle of summer ... and before you do all that.. you decide if a wild grape is worthwhile to grow.. perhaps mail ordering a prime cultivar.. for under $20 bucks.. might be a much better alternative.. to getting actual usable grapes.. even if it is one of the ones you name ... ken |

| I looked at your member page to get an idea of your location and what native grapes might be found there. If you would edit your name to give a hint of where you are, instead of the 'none' there now. Al |

| From what I recall of my propagation class ground layering linked above might be a good bet. I also recall the professor said that long ago early settlers from Europe often moved their grapes the America by taking cuttings and packing them upside down in wet sawdust. Might be fun to try. |
