Does the type of container matter?

I am going to try to propagate some cuttings from several different Acalypha shrubs and some Bauhinia Tomentosa seedings to eventually plant in the ground and thought I would use some clay pots that I already have. Will they be alright for this or would it be better to use plastic ones? I recall looking for small plastic nursery type pots a while back and couldn't find any.

Oh and by the way, what would be the best soil for this, Miracle Grow mixed with perlite or peat moss?

Thanks you.
