GARDENING GUIDES5 Invaluable Life Lessons From the Garden
The garden is both teacher and healer. Don't be afraid — dig in and reap the benefits
Full StoryI just purchased 6 one-gallon pots of H. macra Aurea, and was hoping to be able to multiply/divide them. Any suggestions on the best way to get them to grow quickly enough to divide? Is it too late to divide them now? I might be able to half them, but they're definitely not filling the pot. Just wondering if it's better to plant the six as is now and plan to divide this fall/next spring or divy them now and grow them on all summer and hopefully have them a reasonable size next year. I divided some last fall and placed them in a shady nursery bed, but seem to have lost several clumps. There may be some sign of life in a few, but maybe nearly half are gone. I may have planted them too late- we had the worst winter in a hundred years, so perhaps not the best test.
