Thanks. I'm doing this for a friend and she wants me to cut up the entire bulb. She said she has 7 more and not to worry about saving the mother bulb. I guess I could take a few scales and then cut the others up? Thanks!

wow i never thought to do this with alliums! i cut up a lily bulb its only been a few weeks though

I didn't cut the bulb up into very small pieces, but I was able to get about 12 pieces out of it. I'm already seeing little signs of growth! I bet this is going to work. I have to wait until 11 more weeks to give them a cool period.

I used 10 parts vermiculite to 1 part water to store them in. It's looking great. I think the main thing people should be careful with is not putting too much water in the vermiculite.

I'll post in a few weeks about how many bulbs I make out of this one bulb. The good thing is you can chip the little bulbs this process makes and go on and on just like tissue culture.
