Bleeding Heart seedpods are not maturing?

I'm curious to know if my Bleeding Heart plant(s) are sterile/infertile or however it's called in the plant world.

The plant grows and blooms lots each year (to the point of some stems drooping from the weight).

Yet when the flowers begin to dry and fall off, the seed pods are tiny, tiny little things (looking unchanged from their appearance if you dissected the flower).

There are the beginnings of seeds inside, white specks attached to the pod, yet they never mature on this plant. Almost all the pods fall off along with the flowers or shortly after.

The plant under scrutiny is Dicentra spectabilis (red/pink).

I also have a new Dicentra spectabilis 'alba' (white), but I have not yet observed it.
