A box cutter will make little triangle holes, and an electric drill will make round ones.

soldering iron or a heated awl. The soldering iron works best and you can make the round holes any size you wish.

A battery powered electric drill is a handy thing to have around anyway. Use wood bits if you want holes bigger than about a quarter inch.

I must not have the right drill bits. The plastic did nothing but laugh. I picked up Dad's soldering iron tonight. I will give that a try. I wonder if I am going to get melted plastic all over it and ruin it?

It won't ruin it. If he is concerned about it, you can buy an inexpensive soldering iron to use.

If I had time, I would take a picture. It is an electric drill (plenty of power), a drill bit, and a small hanging plastic pot. The pot came with very few drain holes and I wanted to add more.

Yes, I did press down - a LOT. The plastic laughed and the drill bit did nothing. Maybe the bit is dull or too large or the wrong kind - it is about 1/4" bit.

For small pots I heat a metal knitting needle or skewer on a gas ring. For larger pots I find a larger metal prong but make sure you hold it in something insulated. An old rat tail file works well and has a wooden handle. Some pots come with no holes but do have depressions marked on them which are easy to punch out with a large nail or similar.

Al, you were right. I went back and tackled it again. I didn't have the drill in reverse, but I was not pressing hard enough. So I got the holes drilled. But as you saw on the Propagation Forum, I am going to buy a soldering iron. :) Per your recommendation, I will need all the wattage I can get. That makes me smile! Thanks for the help.
