I've not heard of this method before but I can imagine that it might work for a lot of shrubs. Try butterfly bushes. They root very easily. It sounds like a lot of extra work compared to a regular cutting, though, and a high possibility of fungus/mildew/mold developing. That's usually what I do with cuttings I get away from home, to get them home, but I've not left them wrapped up before.

If a branch will reach the ground without breaking, I like to use the rock method, setting a rock or brick on the branch to hold it on the ground, in contact with the soil. Can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a year depending on what you are working with.
