Best techniques for cypress cuttings??

Hello, I have a very nice 5ft tall chamaecyparis lawsoniana cypress and would like to grow a couple more of these trees from cuttings. I have read on cutting techniques but there's a lot of conflicting information on how to do this.

Zone 5 (Indiana) here and I'll have to store the cuttings outdoors either in a garden bed or unheated garage over the winter. Our house is probably too warm (74 deg F) for the cuttings during the winter.

I *think* what I need to do is take cuttings in late fall, right after a hard freeze, and then place cuttings in a sand/peat or sand/perlite mix for the winter. No problem with that, but the cuttings will be frozen outdoors or in the unheated garage. Is this OK?

Any suggestions from the other forum members on how best to do this?

Thanks very much!
