Easy Propagation Chamber - Mildew issue

Posted by pbishop 6b (My Page) on

I set up one of Dani's easy propagation Chamber and I had a problem with mildew. I kept it in the shade and only filled when the pot was pretty empty.

My hydrangea cuttings were the only ones that survived.

I used a mixture of seed starting mix and potting soil.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of water are you using? Around here I cannot use out tap water for anything related to condensation because it quickly grows algae and mildews. I am on a well.

Not sure if this will help - but if you use tap water, try a cleaner water such as filtered or distilled.

Good luck!

I use only distilled water in my chanbers. It is about .62 a gallon at WM. Let us know if it makes a difference.

I use course sand in trays that will drain.
I place the chamber over the trays and remove it every afternoon for a couple of minutes to let the carbon dioxide leave.
I mist the cuttings and replace the chamber.
The walls of the chamber will have condensation on it.
A soil type medium will hold too much moisture and cause fungus and root rot.
