Plant Propagation

To late this year?

I would like to try to propagate some elderberry, I have a shrub border that will need cleaning out in the next couple of years, and I would like to fill in some of the spaces.

I have never tried this on trees or shrubs, and from what I have read I think I should have taken soft wood cuttings earlier this spring.

Is it to late in the year to try it now?

one of the sites at the link suggests root cuttings/suckers [the 2nd] .. which to me means there might be already rooted suckers near mom ...
and it might be a good time to separate a few.. and further root them in a pot.. for planting in fall ..

if one system is too late.. stem cuttings.. look for other options ...

ps: and why not try stem cuttings.. who knows.. maybe you will get lucky.. you really dont need someone elses OK to try .. and what would you be out?? ... a few minutes of playing in the garden .. and a nickels worth of potting media??? and a plastic bag and pot??? .. GO FOR IT!!!
