How would you approach an old unknown plant almost dead?

At a house we purchased there is a small woody perennial that that appeared almost dead. Watering it for the summer produced a few tiny leaves on the ends of a couple of stems, one produced a tiny pink flower.

We are out in the desert and there is nothing to compare it to at nearby homes.

I would like to attempt to save it just out of curiosity (And an lifelong urge to save plants.).

How should I proceed?
