Overwintering Tropical Milkweed & Cuttings and Rooting (newbie)

Hi All,

Total newbie here. (Be gentle.)

Started Tropical Milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) from seeds last spring. Wanted to try over-wintering cuttings to get a head-start in Spring '14.

Described as a very easygoing plant, advice seen online was mostly as simple as "take the lower leaves off the cutting and keep it in water over the winter indoors, then poke it into the soil in the spring".

Cuttings quickly grew out the water-roots, and now are are growing (small) new leaves/spindly branches. Several months to go. Should these be trimmed periodically, left alone, cut back when re-planted in the Spring?

Also noticed (water) roots extending not only from the bottom cut, but also from the (removed) leaf nodes - even down from those just above the water level. Very curious: so is Tropical Milkweed like a tomato plant - I mean if you buried a long part of the stem, would it just root all along it? (Probably would have tried it if any long stems were left.)

Thanks for any suggestions on overwintering, and re-starting from the cuttings next Spring.
