Rose of Sharon??

Hello,

I was taken with a hedge in front of an old home in Baltimore---it was profusely flowering a purply-burgundy color. The elderly gentleman inside graciously told me I could take whatever I wanted!

I took 3 sprigs and put them in water. Can anyone help me try to get these things rooted? I have no experience with this.... I don't know for sure what they are, but I strongly suspect Rose of Sharon.

Take/reduce cuttings to firm new growth. Apply 0.1% IBA(Rooting Hormone) Stick in well drained soil & mist. taking 25-80 days to root.
Grown easly from seed & small seedlings are often found around the plant.

Sadly, it took me until today to implement the plan--much to my delight there were little root buds all over the stems which have been sitting in water.

Thank you George for your suggestion---I'll save the rooting hormone for my next project!
