Propagating Pelargoniums from Cutting

I read about how easy it is to propagate pelargoniums (aka geraniums) from cuttings, yet all of mine rot before they root. I am attempting to root them in seed starting mix outside so I can't control the rain and humidity, but even when it hasn't been rainy, they rot.

I was thinking about switching to vermiculite to root the cuttings. Any advice?

I have what is left of a beautiful Martha Washington geranium and I've been thinking of trying to root it in Rootone and potting mix. I do have perlite and vermitculite and spagnum peat moss. Wonder which will do best? Keep us posted on your progress.
