Rooting in water v. soil

If a plant will root in either water or in soil, is there a difference in how it will thrive? It seems to me that cuttings that I've rooted in water have a harder time getting going once they're planted in soil than the ones that have been in soil all along.

sweetalice you are correct. If they will root in soil don't waste the time it takes for water roots to form. Those water roots rot off while the new soil roots form and that's why the growth slows.
