Dividing ornamental grasses

I just have a question on when to divide my silver maiden grass. Some sources say to divide in the spring, others in the fall. I would like to be able to do it in the fall because that is when i have the most time available to replant the new divisions, but i dont want to jeopardize their sucess. Is this possible?

You will wish to divide when the plant is dormant any time from late fall through early spring. So go ahead you will not "harm" the plant.....
