By flowering maple do you mean Abutilon? The name flowering maple is unhelpful as it is not remotely related to maples. If so just cut of a few pieces about 4 - 6 inches long. Strip off the bottom few leaves. Insert the end of the cutting in a rooting compound (easy to buy at a garden centre) if you like but I never use them. Then insert the cuttings around the edge of a 6 in diameter flower pot filled with damp (not wet) cuttings medium (again easily found in a garden centre). Place a plastic bag over the pot. Make sure it is full of air like a balloon, not sticking to the cuttings. Put a rubber and around the bag and pot. Put the cuttings in a light but not full sun place, eg N facing window sill. Wait. and watch. Don't over water just ensure the medium is just damp.

If it is in the house I would definitely wait until spring. It will be under stress in the winter due to being in warm, low light and low humidity conditions. It can go outside in the summer and cuttings will be much more successful at that time of year.

I realise my second sentence in my first response sounds a bit brusque. I didn't mean it to. It's just that 'flowering maple' isn't a name I knew well and I was guessing what you meant. It's always best to use the botanical name, if you know it, as common names vary even within the same country.
