When to air-layer fig tree?

Hi all,

I have tried a number of methods for propagating my fig tree and all have failed for me.

I tried cutting a branch and dipping it in Take Root and sticking it in potting soil. All of the leaves fell off in 4 days.

I tried using Take Root and perlite and all the leaves fell off in a week.

I tried using plain water and all the leaves fell off in 4 days.

I tried using a plastic bag with a damp paper towel and Take Root. After 10 days it still has a leaf, but it doesnÂt look too healthy.

I read about air-pots on Garden Web and I just ordered 3 one gallon pots. They havenÂt arrived yet, but I am wondering what the best time of year to do rooting. I have read on this web site that it is best to do in spring and in another place it is best to do when the plant is dormant.

Thanks,

PJ
