Perlite

I have some curly willow cuttings (hardened off - mainly second year growth) I put into perlite tonight. I water frequently 2-3 times a day. Do you think I will get roots just using perlite?

I've not had good luck getting curly willow to root in aerated water. Weeping Willows root well for me in water, as do pussy willow. And Hosta's grow like gang busters when you toss them into an aerated bucket. Wild, sand bar type of willows root pretty well in water also.

I should have rooted them under a glass dome, but I think it is a bit late in the year for that, seems to take stuff quite a while in there.

should root if it does not de-hydrate.... a 0.1% IBA (rooting hormone) will speed up the pprocess

Thanks. I'll put some hormone on them tomorrow.

Should I add some peat in with the perlite so it retains some more water?

I hope you have a lot of room. Curly willow grows to 60ft. provided it's in good location. My neighbor planted one 3 or 4 years ago, it was quite small and now it is about 20ft. with 10 ft. diameter. Beautiful to look at and grows incredibly fast. One note, ground in which it's grown is constantly moist and it shows.
