Procedure is sound... I stick my cuttings in the fall before a freeze. but in a cold frame.... during the winter they form a callus & then root in the spring....
I use this primarly because it is the only time I have.... It could be done any time of the year using a misting bench during the summer. also because they have grown considerbly by the next fall & better able to get through the winter.

Thank you for your kind response. With what frequency should the cuttings (in a coldframe) be watered? Do you mist the cuttings regularly?

According to Dr. Dirr in the "Reference Manual of Woody Plant Propagation" now is the time to start cuttings using 3000 to 8000 PPM IBA talc and bottom heat about 65 degrees and mist or tenting. Should root in about 8 weeks. Al

calistoga, I have Dr.Dirr book too.
We found evergreen plants of the cone family root better in the Winter.
Many do better from seeds.
